Video Script -- Lesson 19

Number 18

Subject: Maths | Class: Playgroup | Series: Skillford

Hello, little friends! Welcome to our Maths lesson. Today we are going to meet a new number. It is the number 18!

Look at this big number. This is 18. Can you say it with me? Eighteen!

18 is called eighteen. Say it again. Eighteen! Very good!

Now look at the picture. We are under the sea! The water is blue and bubbly, and there are pink and orange corals on the sand. Look at all the happy fish. There are orange fish, blue fish, yellow fish, pink fish, purple fish, green fish, red fish and a turquoise fish. They swim in three columns, and there are six fish in each column.

Let us count them together. Touch each one with your finger. One! Two! Three! Four! Five! Six! Seven! Eight! Nine! Ten! Eleven! Twelve! Thirteen! Fourteen! Fifteen! Sixteen! Seventeen! Eighteen! There are eighteen! Clap your hands for eighteen!

18 comes just after 17. First we say seventeen. Then we say eighteen. Seventeen, eighteen. One more than seventeen is eighteen.

Here is a little game. Pretend you are a fish. Wiggle your hands like a tail. Swim, swim, swim! Now count eighteen wiggles with me. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve, thirteen, fourteen, fifteen, sixteen, seventeen, eighteen. Well done!

Now it is time to trace the number 18. Hold up your finger. Let us draw 18 in the air.

Start at the top. Go straight down. That is the number 1. Now for the 8. Wait for a moment. Then curve round at the top. Now make a second curve underneath, just like the first. That is the number 8. Together they make eighteen!

Let us do it again, nice and slow. Straight down. Pause. Curve round. Curve again. 18!

When you trace 18 in your book, always start at the dot. Go slowly and carefully. Take your time.

After tracing, you can colour the eighteen fish at the top of the page. Count them as you colour. You will also find some socks, some tomatoes and some pomegranates in your book. Have fun counting them!

Let us remember what we learned today. The number 18 is called eighteen. We count eighteen things like this: one, two, three, and all the way to eighteen.

18 comes just after 17.

To make the number 18, we go straight down for the 1, then make two round curves, one on top of the other, for the 8.

You did a super job today, little friends! Keep counting and keep saying eighteen. See you next time! Bye-bye!
