Revision Objectives

• Recognise the number 18 and say its name "eighteen"
• Count 18 objects, touching each one once
• Say the number that comes just before 18
• Trace the number 18 with the correct stroke

Revision Activity 1: Count and Clap

Time: 5 minutes

• Sit in a circle and count from 1 to 18 together, clapping on every number
• Stop on 18 and say "eighteen!" with a big clap
• Count again, whispering the numbers and then saying 18 loudly

Revision Activity 2: Point and Say

Time: 5 minutes

• Open page 67 or hold up number cards
• Say a number and learners point to it: 16, 17, 18
• Then swap: you point, learners say the number name
• Clap once for every correct answer

Revision Activity 3: Fish in the Sea

Time: 5 minutes

• Learners pretend to be fish, swimming with their hands
• Call out: "Eighteen fish, swim!" and count together from 1 to 18 as they wiggle
• Stop on eighteen and say "eighteen fish!"
• Ask: "What number comes just before eighteen?" (17)

Revision Activity 4: Clap and Count

Time: 5 minutes

• Count to eighteen together, clapping once for each number
• Ask: "How many claps?" Learners say "eighteen"
• Repeat with whispered claps and then big claps

Revision Activity 5: Air, Sand and Pencil Tracing

Time: 8 minutes

• Draw a big 18 in the air together: draw a straight line from the top down for the 1, then for the 8 pause briefly, draw the top curve, and then draw a second curve just like it underneath
• Let learners trace 18 with a finger on the big 18 on page 68
• Trace one dotted row of 18 on a fresh sheet with a pencil
• Check that every learner starts at the dot

Revision Activity 6: Before and After

Time: 3 minutes

• Hold up the number card 18
• Ask: "What comes just before 18?" (17)
• Ask: "What comes just after 18?" (19)
• Count together from 17 to 18, then on to 19
