Revision Objectives

• Recognise the number 17 and say its name "seventeen"
• Count 17 objects, touching each one once
• Say the number that comes just before 17
• Trace the number 17 with the correct stroke

Revision Activity 1: Count and Clap

Time: 5 minutes

• Sit in a circle and count from 1 to 17 together, clapping on every number
• Stop on 17 and say "seventeen!" with a big clap
• Count again, whispering the numbers and then saying 17 loudly

Revision Activity 2: Point and Say

Time: 5 minutes

• Open page 64 or hold up number cards
• Say a number and learners point to it: 15, 16, 17
• Then swap: you point, learners say the number name
• Clap once for every correct answer

Revision Activity 3: Car Race Count

Time: 5 minutes

• Line up toy cars (or counters) in rows of four on the floor
• Count the first row, then the second, third and fourth, then add one more car at the front
• Ask: "How many cars are on the road now?" Learners say "seventeen"
• Let a volunteer roll the front car forward and count again

Revision Activity 4: Bamboo Bowl

Time: 5 minutes

• Put a bowl on the table and give learners a pile of straws or sticks
• Learners drop in one stick at a time as the group counts to seventeen
• Stop and ask: "How many sticks are in the bowl?"

Revision Activity 5: Air, Sand and Pencil Tracing

Time: 8 minutes

• Draw a big 17 in the air together: draw a straight line from the top down for the 1, then draw the line across the top and quickly change direction to draw the slanted line down for the 7
• Let learners trace 17 with a finger on the big 17 on page 65
• Trace one dotted row of 17 on a fresh sheet with a pencil
• Check that every learner starts at the dot

Revision Activity 6: Before and After

Time: 3 minutes

• Hold up the number card 17
• Ask: "What comes just before 17?" (16)
• Ask: "What comes just after 17?" (18)
• Count together from 16 to 17, then on to 18
