Hello, little friends! Welcome to our Maths lesson. Today we are going to meet a new number. It is the number 16!

Look at this big number. This is 16. Can you say it with me? Sixteen!

16 is called sixteen. Say it again. Sixteen! Very good!

Now look at the picture. There is a green garden with a white fence and a big tree. On the grass there are lots of colourful drums. Each drum has two drumsticks. Some drums have stars, some have hearts, some have dots and some have triangles. The drums sit in four rows. There are four drums in each row.

Let us count them together. Touch each one with your finger. One! Two! Three! Four! Five! Six! Seven! Eight! Nine! Ten! Eleven! Twelve! Thirteen! Fourteen! Fifteen! Sixteen! There are sixteen! Clap your hands for sixteen!

16 comes just after 15. First we say fifteen. Then we say sixteen. Fifteen, sixteen. One more than fifteen is sixteen.

Here is a little game. Pretend you are playing a drum. Tap, tap, tap. Let us tap sixteen times. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve, thirteen, fourteen, fifteen, sixteen. Well done!

Now it is time to trace the number 16. Hold up your finger. Let us draw 16 in the air.

Start at the top. Go straight down. That is the number 1. Now for the 6. Start at the top. Curve round and down, and make a round belly at the bottom. That is the number 6. Together they make sixteen!

Let us do it again, nice and slow. Straight down. Curve round. Round belly. 16!

When you trace 16 in your book, always start at the dot. Go slowly and carefully. Take your time.

After tracing, you can colour the sixteen drums at the top of the page. Count them as you colour. You will also find some zebras, a maze and a bunch of balloons in your book. Have fun counting them!

Let us remember what we learned today. The number 16 is called sixteen. We count sixteen things like this: one, two, three, and all the way to sixteen.

16 comes just after 15.

To make the number 16, we go straight down for the 1, then curve round and make a round belly for the 6.
