Revision Objectives

• Recognise the number 16 and say its name "sixteen"
• Count 16 objects, touching each one once
• Say the number that comes just before 16
• Trace the number 16 with the correct stroke

Revision Activity 1: Count and Clap

Time: 5 minutes

• Sit in a circle and count from 1 to 16 together, clapping on every number
• Stop on 16 and say "sixteen!" with a big clap
• Count again, whispering the numbers and then saying 16 loudly

Revision Activity 2: Point and Say

Time: 5 minutes

• Open page 60 or hold up number cards
• Say a number and learners point to it: 14, 15, 16
• Then swap: you point, learners say the number name
• Clap once for every correct answer

Revision Activity 3: Drum Beat Count

Time: 5 minutes

• Give each learner a tub or pot to use as a drum
• Tap slowly together and count each tap out loud up to sixteen
• Stop on sixteen and say "sixteen drums!"
• Let two volunteers tap and the group counts

Revision Activity 4: Boats on the Table

Time: 5 minutes

• Put sixteen paper boats (or counters) on the table: ten in one row and six in another
• Count the first row, then keep counting through the second row
• Ask: "How many boats are there all together?" Learners say "sixteen"

Revision Activity 5: Air, Sand and Pencil Tracing

Time: 8 minutes

• Draw a big 16 in the air together: draw a straight line from the top down for the 1, then for the 6 start at the top, curve round and down, and finish with a round "belly" at the bottom
• Let learners trace 16 with a finger on the big 16 on page 61
• Trace one dotted row of 16 on a fresh sheet with a pencil
• Check that every learner starts at the dot

Revision Activity 6: Before and After

Time: 3 minutes

• Hold up the number card 16
• Ask: "What comes just before 16?" (15)
• Ask: "What comes just after 16?" (17)
• Count together from 15 to 16, then on to 17

Key Points to Remember

• The number 16 is called "sixteen"
