Video Script -- Lesson 15
Number 14
Subject: Maths | Class: Playgroup | Series: Skillford
Hello, little friends! Welcome to our maths lesson. Today we are going to meet a new number. It is the number fourteen!
Look at this big yellow number. This is fourteen. Can you say it with me? Fourteen!
Now look at the picture. Yum! There are some beautiful cupcakes sitting on a wooden table. Some have cherries on top. Some have a strawberry, or a little heart, or a shiny star. One even has a flower! And they all sit in cases of different colours. How many cupcakes can we count? Let us count them together. Touch each cupcake with your finger.
One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve, thirteen, fourteen! There are fourteen cupcakes. Say it with me. Fourteen cupcakes! Wonderful!
Let us count them one more time, row by row. In the top row there are five cupcakes. In the middle row there are five more. In the bottom row there are four. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve, thirteen, fourteen! Fourteen cupcakes!
Here is a fun trick. Fourteen is ten, and four more. Hold up ten fingers. Now put up four more. Ten and four more is fourteen!
Now let us use a calculator. Press the number one. Now press the number four. Look! It says fourteen. A one and then a four makes fourteen. Clever!
Now it is time to trace the number fourteen. Hold up your finger. Let us draw fourteen in the air.
First we make number one. Start at the top and go straight down. Now for number four. Start at the top and go down with a slanting line to the left. Lift your finger. Now draw a flat line across, going a little to the right. Last of all, draw a straight line down on the right. That is the number fourteen!
Let us do it again. Straight down for one. Slanting line for four. Flat line across. Straight line down. Fourteen!
One more time, nice and slow. Down, slant, across, and down. Well done!
When you trace fourteen in your book, always start at the dot. Follow the green arrows. Go slowly and carefully. Take your time.
After tracing, you can colour the fourteen cupcakes at the top of your page. Count each one as you colour. One, two, three, all the way to fourteen.
On the next page there are some fun activities. First, look at the toffees. Count the little circles on each toffee and colour the toffee that has fourteen spots. Next, look at the groups around the big number fourteen. Count each group and join the group that has fourteen. And last of all, there are lots of fluffy yellow chicks. Count them all and write the number in the box.
Let us remember what we learned today. This number is called fourteen. We count one, two, three, all the way up to fourteen.
There are fourteen cupcakes on the table.
To make the number fourteen, we go straight down for one, then slant, go across and go down for four.
You did a super job today, little friends! Keep counting to fourteen. See you next time! Bye-bye!
