Hello, little friends! Welcome to our maths lesson. Today we are going to meet a new number. It is the number thirteen!

Look at this big pink number. This is thirteen. Can you say it with me? Thirteen!

Now look at the picture. Oh my! We are in a sweet little shop. There are three pretty shelves in pink and blue, and sparkly lights up above. And look at all the doughnuts! Some have chocolate on top. Some have sprinkles. Some are pink, some are yellow, and one is green. How many doughnuts can we count? Let us count them together. Touch each doughnut with your finger.

One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve, thirteen! There are thirteen doughnuts. Say it with me. Thirteen doughnuts! Wonderful!

Let us count them one more time, shelf by shelf. On the top shelf there are four doughnuts. On the middle shelf there are five. On the bottom shelf there are four again. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve, thirteen! Thirteen doughnuts!

Here is a fun trick. Thirteen is ten, and three more. Hold up ten fingers. Now put up three more. Ten and three more is thirteen!

Now let us use a calculator. Press the number one. Now press the number three. Look! It says thirteen. A one and then a three makes thirteen. Clever!

Now it is time to trace the number thirteen. Hold up your finger. Let us draw thirteen in the air.

First we make number one. Start at the top and go straight down. Now for number three. Start at the top and make a curve. Now make a second curve, just the same as the first one. That is the number thirteen!

Let us do it again. Straight down for one. A curve for the top of three. Another curve, just the same. Thirteen!

One more time, nice and slow. Down, curve, curve. Well done!

When you trace thirteen in your book, always start at the dot. Follow the green arrows. Go slowly and carefully. Take your time.

After tracing, you can colour the thirteen doughnuts at the top of your page. Count each one as you colour. One, two, three, all the way to thirteen.

On the next page there are some fun activities. First, look at the crocodiles. Count their spots and colour the crocodiles that have thirteen spots. Next, look at the big green maze. Can you help the number thirteen find its home? Count the dots in the boxes and follow the path. And last of all, there are lots of little starfish. Trace each one, colour it, and count them all up to thirteen. Then write the number in the box.

Let us remember what we learned today. This number is called thirteen. We count one, two, three, all the way up to thirteen.

There are thirteen doughnuts on the shelves.

To make the number thirteen, we go straight down for one, then draw two curves for three.
