Video Script -- Lesson 11
Number 10
Subject: Maths | Class: Playgroup | Series: Skillford
Hello, little friends! Welcome to our Maths lesson. Today we are going to meet a new number. It is the number ten!
Look at this big red number. This is ten. Can you say it with me? Ten!
Now look at the picture. We are in a hat shop. A boy is talking to a smiling lady at the counter. Look at all the caps. There is one cap on a stand at the top, and then there are caps on three shelves. Let us count them together. Touch each one as we count.
One cap at the top. Now the top shelf. Two, three, four. The middle shelf. Five, six, seven. And the bottom shelf. Eight, nine, ten! There are ten caps. Ten caps! Say it with me. Ten caps.
Look closely at the big number. Ten is made of two parts. There is a tall, thin one, and a round, skinny zero. One and zero together make ten!
Here is something you carry with you all day. Hold up your hands. We have ten fingers. Let us count them. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten! And we have ten toes too. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten!
Now let us count backwards. Hold up all ten fingers. Ten, put one down. Nine, put one down. Eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one. And now we have zero! No fingers left. Well done!
Now it is time to trace the number ten. Hold up your finger. Let us draw ten in the air.
First draw a straight line from the top to the bottom. That is the one. Now draw a skinny round shape, like a long letter O. That is the zero. One, zero. That is the number ten!
Let us do it again. Straight line down. Skinny round zero. Ten!
One more time, nice and slow. Down, and round. Well done!
When you trace ten in your book, always start at the dots. Go slowly and carefully. Take your time.
On the next pages, you can colour the ten caps. You can find the sandcastle that has ten flags on it. And you can join the dots from one to ten, then colour in the ocean animal. Count carefully as you go. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten!
Let us remember what we learned today. The number is ten. Ten caps. Ten fingers. Ten toes. Ten flags on a sandcastle.
You did a super job today, little friends! Keep counting to ten. See you next time! Bye-bye!
