Video Script -- Lesson 10
Number 9
Subject: Maths | Class: Playgroup | Series: Skillford
Hello, little friends! Welcome to our Maths lesson. Today we are going to meet a new number. It is the number nine!
Look at this big yellow number. This is nine. Can you say it with me? Nine!
Now look at the picture. We are at a juice stall in the market. There is a wooden stand with three shelves, and on the shelves there are glasses of juice. Each glass has a slice of orange on the side. Let us count them together. Touch each one as we count.
On the top shelf. One, two, three. On the middle shelf. Four, five, six. On the bottom shelf. Seven, eight, nine! There are nine glasses of juice. Nine glasses of juice! Say it with me. Nine glasses of juice.
How many glasses are on each shelf? Three! Three on the top, three in the middle and three on the bottom. Well done!
Now let us try something fun. Let us count to nine and drop things into water, one by one. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine. Do they float or do they sink? Let us count how many float.
Now let us build a tower. We need nine blocks. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine. Will it stand up or will it fall down? Here is a smaller tower with five blocks. Which tower is taller? The tower with nine!
Now it is time to trace the number nine. Hold up your finger. Let us draw nine in the air.
Start just under the top line. Go round to make a nice round circle. Now add a straight line down. That is the number nine!
Some friends like to think of nine as a bat hitting a ball. The circle is the ball and the straight line is the bat.
Let us do it again. Start at the top. Round like a ball. Straight line down. Nine!
One more time, nice and slow. Round and down. Well done!
When you trace nine in your book, always start at the dot. Go slowly and carefully. Take your time.
On the next pages, you can colour the nine glasses of juice. You can draw nine holes in a leaf next to a friendly grasshopper. And you can count the birds sitting on a branch. How many birds are there? Nine!
Let us remember what we learned today. The number is nine. Nine glasses of juice. Nine birds. Nine blocks in a tall tower.
You did a super job today, little friends! Keep counting to nine. See you next time! Bye-bye!
