Video Script -- Lesson 2
Number 1
Subject: Maths | Class: Playgroup | Series: Skillford
Hello, little friends! Welcome to our maths lesson. Today we are going to meet a new number. It is the number one!
Look at this big pink number. This is one. Can you say it with me? One!
Now look at the picture. There is a happy elephant walking in the golden grass. The elephant is wearing a pretty scarf. And look, the elephant is holding a bunch of flowers in its trunk. Flowers for you! How many elephants can you see? One! One elephant. Say it with me. One elephant!
One means a single thing. Let us find some ones on our own bodies. Touch your nose. How many noses do you have? One! Touch your mouth. How many mouths? One! Touch your head. How many heads? One! You are so clever.
Now let us do some one actions. Clap once. One! Jump once. One! Hop once. One! Very good!
Here is a puzzle for you. I have one block. Can I make one block stand up on its own? Let us try. Stand it on its end. Yes, it can stand! One block.
Now it is time to trace the number one. Hold up your finger. Let us draw one in the air.
Start at the top. Go straight down. That is the number one!
Let us do it again. Start at the top. Straight down. One!
One more time, nice and slow. Down, down, down. Well done!
Your teacher says to keep the line nice and straight. Try not to let it lean over to one side. Stand your one up tall, like a little soldier.
When you trace one in your book, always start at the dot. Go slowly and carefully. Take your time.
On the next page there is a baby elephant sitting down. You can colour the one elephant. How many elephants will you colour? One!
Then you will have some fun activities. Look at the cakes. Some cakes have one candle and some have two candles. Colour the cakes that have one candle. Next, look at the pictures. There is a red car, a pair of blue shoes, two birds and a yellow mango. Find the groups of one and join them to the number one. Then look at the boy. Count his nose, his mouth and his head. How many of each? One!
Let us remember what we learned today. The number one is called one.
One means a single thing. We have one nose, one mouth and one head.
To make one, we start at the top and go straight down.
You did a super job today, little friends! Keep saying one, one, one. See you next time! Bye-bye!
