Video Script -- Lesson 44

Use of "The"

Subject: English | Class: Prep | Series: Skillford

Hello children! Welcome to today's lesson. Today we are going to learn how to use "the".

Once you have named a thing, you say "the" in front of it the next time. Look at my pencil. This is a pencil. The pencil is long. The first time, we say "a pencil". The next time, we say "the pencil". Very good!

Let us read some sentences together. This is a jug. The jug is large. That is a tortoise. The tortoise is small. This is an apple. The apple is red. That is an eagle. The eagle is brown. Did you notice something? The first sentence names the thing, and the second sentence says "the" because we already know which one we mean.

Now it is your turn. Look at the pictures on the page. This is a balloon. The balloon is green. That is a snake. The snake is long. This is a rose. The rose is red. That is a sheep. The sheep is white. Well done!

Let us quickly go over what we learned today. First we name a thing with "a" or "an". Then, the next time, we say "the" in front of it.

Great job, everyone! Pick an object in your classroom and say two sentences about it. See you next time!
