Use of "Was" and "Were"

Subject: English | Class: Prep | Series: Skillford

Hello children! Welcome to today's lesson. Today we are going to learn how to use "was" and "were".

"Was" and "were" talk about what has already happened. Today I am at school. Yesterday I was at home. We use "was" for one, and "were" for more than one. Well done!

Let us read some sentences together. She was happy. She is one girl, so we say "was". It was a sunny day. It is one day, so we say "was". We were at school. We means more than one, so we say "were". They were sad. They means more than one, so we say "were".

Now it is your turn. Listen to the sentence and say the missing word. It was cold. They were eating rice. The baby was in the cot. The boys were singing. The fish was in the bowl. Very good!

Let us quickly go over what we learned today. "Was" and "were" talk about what has already happened. We use "was" for one. We use "were" for more than one.

Great job, everyone! Tell your friends what happened yesterday using "was" and "were". See you next time!
