1. Use "These" for more than one thing near the speaker
2. Use "Those" for more than one thing far away from the speaker
3. Read sentences such as "These are crayons" and "Those are parrots"
4. Complete sentences with "these" or "those"

Formative Assessment

1. Point and Say (During Day 1)

• Task: Children point at a group of things near them and say "These are ...", then point at a group far away and say "Those are ..."
• Criteria:
  • Chooses "these" for near and "those" for far
  • Says the whole sentence clearly
• Rating: Excellent / Good / Needs Practice

2. These or Those (During Day 1)

• Task: Teacher holds up two pencils close, then two books far away. Children say "These" or "Those".
• Criteria: Correct word each time
• Rating: All correct / Most correct / Needs support

3. Activity Time (During Day 2)

• Task: Children complete the ten sentences on page 56
• Criteria: Correct word in at least 7 out of 10 blanks
• Rating: Excellent / Good / Needs Practice

Remediation Plan

• Children who score below 5/10 should:
  • Play the near and far game with groups of objects every day

  • Complete the page 56 sentences again in small groups, saying whether each group is near or far
