Video Script -- Lesson 34

Use of "This" and "That"

Subject: English | Class: Prep | Series: Skillford

Hello children! Welcome to today's lesson. Today we are going to learn how to use "this" and "that".

When something is near us, we say "this". Hold your pencil close to you and say "This is a pencil." Very good! When something is far away from us, we say "that". Point to something far away and say "That is a door." Well done!

We use "this" to refer to something that is near the speaker. We use "that" to refer to something that is far away from the speaker.

Let us read some sentences together. This is a cat. The cat is close to us, so we say "this". That is a duck. The duck is far away, so we say "that".

This is an egg. That is a truck. This is an ant. That is a tree. This is a camel. That is an eagle. Did you notice something? The things that are near use "this", and the things that are far away use "that".

Now it is your turn. Look at the pictures and say the sentences. This is a whale. That is an elephant. This is a capsicum. That is an onion. This is a falcon. That is an ox. This is a bat. That is an umpire. This is a soldier. That is an axe.

Let us quickly go over what we learned today. We use "this" for something near. We use "that" for something far away. Point close for "this" and point far for "that".

Great job, everyone! Look around your classroom and say "This is a ..." and "That is a ..." with your friends. See you next time!
