Video Script -- Lesson 26

Silent Letters

Subject: English | Class: Prep | Series: Skillford

Hello children! Welcome to today's lesson. Today we are going to learn about silent letters.

A silent letter is written in a word but never said. It is there on the page and gone from your mouth. Let us listen for the letter that says nothing.

Wreck, wrist, write, wrap. Say them with me. Do you hear a "w" at the start? No! The "w" is silent.

Knife, knee, knock, know. Do you hear a "k" at the start? No! The "k" is silent. Say knife again. Now cover the "k" with your finger and read the word. Knife. It sounds the same!

Comb, lamb, crumb, limb. Do you hear a "b" at the end? No! The "b" is silent.

Scene, scent, science, scissors. Here the "c" is silent. It sits after the "s" and says nothing.

Now it is time for the activity. Write the silent letter that is missing from each word. Wrap. Knife. Limb. Scent. Know. Comb. Knee. Wrist. Say each word slowly and think about the letter that you did not say.

Let us quickly go over what we learned today. A silent letter is written in a word but never said. We saw silent "w", silent "k", silent "b" and silent "c".

Great job, everyone! Look out for silent letters in the words around you. See you next time!
