Two Vowels Together Rule

Subject: English | Class: Prep | Series: Skillford

Hello children! Welcome to today's lesson. Today we are going to learn the Two Vowels Together Rule.

Here is the rule. When two vowels sit side by side, the first one says its own name and the second one says nothing. The first vowel talks. The second vowel is quiet.

Let us read each row and listen to the first vowel. Rain, mail, fail, sail, tail. Here the two vowels are "a i". We hear the "a", and the "i" is quiet.

Jeep, sheep, deep, feed, need. Here the two vowels are "e e". We hear the long "e".

Tie, pie, lie, die, movie. Here the two vowels are "i e". Say them with me.

Coat, soap, boat, toad, goat. Here the two vowels are "o a". We hear the "o", and the "a" is quiet.

Blue, glue, true, clue, hue. Here the two vowels are "u e". Very good!

Now it is time for the activity. Write the missing pair of vowels in each word. The first one is done for you. Boat. We write "o a" in the middle. Now you try. Rain. Fail. Deep. Toad. Need. Blue. Sheep. Green. Train. Say each word slowly and listen for the first vowel.

Let us quickly go over what we learned today. When two vowels sit side by side, the first one says its own name and the second one says nothing.

Great job, everyone! Read the rows again on your own and listen to the first vowel. See you next time!
