Revision Plan -- Lesson 23
Magic "e" Rule
Subject: English | Class: Prep | Series: Skillford
Revision Objectives
- Remember that the vowel says its own name and the final "e" is silent
- Read pairs of words and hear the vowel change
- Fill in the missing vowel and silent "e" for pictures
Revision Activity 1: Add the Magic "e"
Time: 5 minutes
- Teacher says a short word: pin, bit, hat, not, tub, mat
- Children say the new word with the silent "e" (pine, bite, hate, note, tube, mate)
Revision Activity 2: Sorting Piles
Time: 10 minutes
- Mix short vowel cards with their magic "e" partners (pin and pine, cap and cape)
- Children sort them into two piles and read each pair one after the other to a partner
Revision Activity 3: Picture Words
Time: 10 minutes
- Hold up or point to the pictures on page 38. Children say the word and spell it with the silent "e":
- cake
- skate
- stove
- plane
- kite
- lime
Key Points to Remember
- When one consonant sits between a vowel and a final "e", the vowel says its own name
- The "e" says nothing at all
- pin becomes pine, cak becomes cake, bit becomes bite, hat becomes hate
- Read pairs straight through to hear what the "e" does from the back of the word
