Video Script -- Lesson 22
Double Consonants
Subject: English | Class: Prep | Series: Skillford
Hello children! Welcome to today's lesson. Today we are going to learn about double consonants.
When the same consonant is written twice, you say it once. And the vowel in front of it keeps its short sound. Let us look at the word "dinner". It has two "n" letters. But we say "n" only once. Dinner! Very good!
Let us read some words and find the double consonant. Cliff. Well. Summer. Cobbler. Coffee. Egg. Dinner. Sniff. Grill. Small. Dress. Mess. Well done!
Can you find the double consonant in each word? In "cliff" the letters are "ff". In "well" the letters are "ll". In "summer" the letters are "mm". In "dress" the letters are "ss". The letters are doubled, but we hear the sound only once, never twice.
Now it is time for our activity. We fill in the missing double consonants. We can use "tt", "pp" or "dd". Look at the pictures. Puppy. The double consonant is "pp". Puddle. The double consonant is "dd". Cattle. The double consonant is "tt". Puppet. "pp". Platter. "tt". Saddle. "dd".
Let us quickly go over what we learned today. When the same consonant is written twice, we say it once. The vowel in front of it keeps its short sound.
Great job, everyone! Look for double consonants in the words you read. See you next time!
