Video Script -- Lesson 20

Trigraphs

Subject: English | Class: Prep | Series: Skillford

Hello children! Welcome to today's lesson. Today we are going to learn about trigraphs.

A trigraph is three letters that together make one sound. Hold up three fingers. Three letters, one sound. Very good!

Today we will meet five trigraphs. These are the ones you will see most often. They are "are", "air", "dge", "eer" and "igh".

Let us read a word for each one. Listen for the trigraph. The trigraph "are" is in square. Square. The trigraph "air" is in pair. Pair. The trigraph "dge" is in fridge. Fridge. The trigraph "eer" is in deer. Deer. The trigraph "igh" is in flight. Flight. Well done!

Let us say the words slowly so we can hear where the three letters stop being separate. Point at the trigraph before you write anything down.

Now it is time for our activity. We say each picture and write the trigraph that is missing. Deer. The trigraph is "eer". Flight. The trigraph is "igh". Chair. The trigraph is "air". Bridge. The trigraph is "dge".

Let us quickly go over what we learned today. A trigraph is three letters that together make one sound. The five trigraphs are "are", "air", "dge", "eer" and "igh".

Great job, everyone! Look for trigraphs in the words around you. See you next time!
