Video Script -- Lesson 19

Vowel Digraphs

Subject: English | Class: Prep | Series: Skillford

Hello children! Welcome to today's lesson. Today we are going to learn about vowel digraphs.

Some vowels are best friends. Two of them team up to make one sound. A vowel digraph is two vowels that come together to make one sound.

Let us read some words together. "Ai" in train. Train. "Ie" in sieve. Sieve. "Oa" in boat. Boat. "Oy" in toy. Toy. Well done!

Let us read some more. "Ee" in queen. Queen. "Ou" in house. House. "Oo" in wood. Wood. "Oo" in moon. Moon.

Did you notice something? The two letters "oo" can make two sounds. Listen. Wood. Moon. In "wood" the sound is short. In "moon" the sound is long.

Look at the letters. Make the mouth shape. Say the sound aloud. Very good!

Now it is time for our activity. We say each word and circle the two letters that make the vowel sound. Deer. The letters are "ee". Book. The letters are "oo". Rain. The letters are "ai". Coat. The letters are "oa".

Let us quickly go over what we learned today. A vowel digraph is two vowels that come together to make one sound.

Great job, everyone! Look for vowel digraphs in the books you read. See you next time!
