Digraphs

Subject: English | Class: Prep | Series: Skillford

Hello children! Welcome to today's lesson. Today we are going to learn about digraphs.

A digraph is two letters that spell one sound. Let us try one. Sh. Two letters, "s" and "h", but only one sound. Very good!

Some digraphs are made of vowels and some of consonants. Today we are looking at five digraphs. Let us read each row and listen to the one sound the pair makes.

The first digraph is "ch". Chin. Child. Rich. Lunch. Well done!

The second digraph is "ph". Photo. Phone. Trophy. Dolphin. Can you hear the sound "f"? Yes, you can!

The third digraph is "sh". Sheep. Shoe. Cash. Fish.

The fourth digraph is "th". Think. Thin. Cloth. Bath.

The fifth digraph is "wh". Wheat. Wheel. Whale. White. Very good!

Did you notice something? A digraph can be at the start of a word, like "chin", or at the end of a word, like "rich".

Now it is time for our activity. We say each picture and write the missing digraph. Chair. Fish. Phone. Bush.

Let us quickly go over what we learned today. A digraph is two letters that spell one sound. Listen carefully to find out where the digraph is hiding in each word.

Great job, everyone! Look for digraphs in the words around you. See you next time!
