Video Script -- Lesson 17
Short /oo/ and Long /oo/ Sounds
Subject: English | Class: Prep | Series: Skillford
Hello children! Welcome to today's lesson. Today we are going to learn about two sounds that "oo" can make.
Two o's side by side can say either of two sounds. One is a short sound. The other is a long sound.
Listen carefully. Book. Moon. Can you hear the difference? In "book" the sound is short. In "moon" the sound is long. Well done!
Let us read the short /oo/ words. Book. Cook. Look. Took. Wool. Did you notice something? Most of these words end in the letter "k".
Now let us read the long /oo/ words. Boot. Cool. Spoon. Moon. Pool. Very good! Long /oo/ words are the commoner of the two.
Now it is time for our activity. We use the words in the box to complete the sentences. The words are books, good, moon, cook and zoo.
Number one. The wolf howled at the moon. Oo! Number two. It is good fun to read books. Number three. The teacher said, "Good job!" Number four. My dad is a good cook. Number five. In the zoo, there are a lot of animals.
Let us quickly go over what we learned today. Two o's can say a short sound, as in "book", or a long sound, as in "moon". The right sound comes with practice, so listen carefully each time.
Great job, everyone! Practise saying "book" and "moon" at home. See you next time!
