Video Script -- Lesson 16
Blending
Subject: English | Class: Prep | Series: Skillford
Hello children! Welcome to today's lesson. Today we are going to learn about blending.
Blending means running the sounds of a word together until you hear the whole word. Let us try it. Look at the whole word. Say each sound in turn. Now say the word together. Sss. Uuu. Nnn. Sun! Very good!
Now let us learn about consonant blends. A consonant blend is two or more consonants said together, with no vowel between them. Blends come in two types.
The first type is the initial consonant blend. It comes at the start of a word. Let us read them. Bl, blanket. Br, broom. Cl, clock. Cr, crab. Dr, dress. Fr, frog. Fl, fly. Gl, globe. Gr, grass. Pl, play. Well done!
The second type is the final consonant blend. It comes at the end of a word. Let us read them. Ct, insect. Ft, gift. Lf, wolf. Lk, milk. Lt, belt. Rn, burn. Mp, lamp. Nd, hand. Nt, ant. Sk, desk. Very good!
Let us try some words again. Clock. Crab. Frog. Play. Say the first two sounds on your own, and then say the whole word.
Now it is time for our activity. We look at each picture, say the word, and write the blend that is missing. Clock, belt, hand, tree. Play, ant, globe, burn. Frog, lamp, grass, wolf.
Let us quickly go over what we learned today. Blending means running sounds together to hear the whole word. A consonant blend is two or more consonants said together. Blends can come at the start of a word or at the end of a word.
Great job, everyone! Blend the sounds of the words you see around you. See you next time!
