Video Script -- Lesson 14
Long Sound "o"
Subject: English | Class: Prep | Series: Skillford
Hello children! Welcome to today's lesson. Today we are going to learn about the long sound "o".
Let us say it together. Oh. Make your mouth round like an "o". Very good! This is the long "o" sound. We can hear it in "go" and "no".
The long "o" sound can be spelt in three different ways. The first way is "oa". The second way is "ow". The third way is "o" and "e" with a letter in the middle.
Let us read the "oa" words. Boat. Toast. Goat. Well done!
Now let us read the "ow" words. Bow. Pillow. Crow. Can you hear the long "o"? Yes, you can!
Next, the words with "o" and "e". Home. Cone. Rope. The letter "e" at the end helps the "o" to say its long sound.
Here is something fun to try. Float a paper boat in a bowl of water, then blow on it. How far can you make it go? You can also build a home from blocks with a window, and a road that goes up to the door.
Now it is time for our activity. First we read a song called "The Brown Cow". The brown cow walks around the town. It wears a smile and never a frown. It sees a clown wearing a crown. The clown says, "Wow!" and sits down. The cow takes a bow and says, "Hello!" Then off to the green fields they go. Let us find the "ow" words. Brown, cow, town, frown, clown, crown, wow, down and bow.
Then we match the words to the pictures. Boat. Hoe. Soap. Goat. Toad. Doe. We circle the letters that make the long "o" sound in each word.
Let us quickly go over what we learned today. The long "o" sound can be spelt "oa", "ow" or "o" and "e". We say the word first, and then we look at the spelling.
Great job, everyone! Read the long "o" words again at home. See you next time!
