Video Script -- Lesson 13
Long Sound "i"
Subject: English | Class: Prep | Series: Skillford
Hello children! Welcome to today's lesson. Today we are going to learn about the long sound "i".
Let us say it together. Eye. Very good! This is the long "i" sound. We can hear it in "pie" and "night".
The long "i" sound can be spelt in three different ways. The first way is "ie". The second way is "igh". The third way is "i" and "e" with a letter in the middle.
Let us read the "ie" words. Pie. Tie. Lie. Well done!
Now let us read the "igh" words. Light. Right. Night. Can you hear the long "i"? Yes, you can! The letters "i", "g" and "h" work together to say one sound.
Next, the words with "i" and "e". Bike. Lime. Slide. The letter "e" at the end helps the "i" to say its long sound.
Here is something fun to try. Shine a torch on a wall and make hand shadows. Say "light", "night" and "bright". You can also make a kite from paper and string and see how high it will fly.
Now it is time for our activity. First we colour the letters that spell the picture and write the word. Lie. Lime. Then we find our way through the maze. We only go through the words with the long "i" sound. High, light, mile, fright, kite, bike, tile, right, tight and delight. We do not go through hit, dig or wind. Those words have a short "i".
Let us quickly go over what we learned today. The long "i" sound can be spelt "ie", "igh" or "i" and "e". We say the word first, and then we look at the spelling.
Great job, everyone! Read the long "i" words again at home. See you next time!
