Long Sound "e"

Subject: English | Class: Prep | Series: Skillford

Hello children! Welcome to today's lesson. Today we are going to learn about the long sound "e".

Let us say it together. Eee. Very good! This is the long "e" sound. We can hear it in "bee" and "tea".

The long "e" sound can be spelt in two different ways. One way is "ee". The other way is "ea".

Let us read the "ee" words first. Bee. Seed. Queen. Jeep. Weep. Listen for the long sound in each word. Well done!

Now let us read the "ea" words. Eat. Leaf. Tea. Sea. Meat. Can you hear the same long "e" sound? Yes, you can! The sound is the same, but the letters are different.

Look at the word "bee". It has "ee". Look at the word "tea". It has "ea". Two different pairs of letters make exactly the same sound.

Here is something fun to try. Plant a bean seed in a cup, water it each day, and watch for the first green leaf. You can also count the bees on a picture card.

Now it is time for our activity. First we circle the words that are spelt with "ee". Jeep, queen, seed, see, feet and green. Then we look at the pictures and write "ea" or "ee" to finish each word. Ear, three, peas, seat, peach, tree, street, bee and queen.

Let us quickly go over what we learned today. The long "e" sound can be spelt "ee" or "ea". We say the word first, and then we look for the pair.

Great job, everyone! Read the long "e" words again at home. See you next time!
