Revision Objectives

• Remember the short "u" sound
• Read the word families ub, ug, um and un
• Write the missing vowel in a word

Revision Activity 1: Small Mouth

Time: 5 minutes

• Barely open your mouth and say the short "u" sound
• Say a word, such as "mug". Children say it back and point at the "u".

Revision Activity 2: Change the Letter

Time: 10 minutes

• Give each pair letter blocks
• Spell "bug", swap the "b" for an "m" to read "mug", and keep going
• Try the families un and ub as well

Revision Activity 3: Which Vowel Is Missing?

Time: 10 minutes

• Write words with a gap on the board, such as b _ g, s _ n and c _ p
• Children say the word and call out the missing vowel
• Read the four sentences at the foot of page 16 together

• Your mouth barely opens, and the short "u" is over at once
• Say each sound, then push them together into one word
• Word families: ub, ug, um, un
• Example words: cub, mug, sum, sun
