Video Script -- Lesson 7
Short Sound "i"
Subject: English | Class: Prep | Series: Skillford
Hello children! Welcome to today's lesson. Today we are going to learn the short sound "i".
Pull your lips back a little. The short sound "i" is over in a flash. I, i, i. Say it with me. Very good!
We say each sound, and then we push the sounds together into one word. Let us try the first family. I, d. Id. B, id. Bid. D, id. Did. K, id. Kid. L, id. Lid. Well done!
Now the next family. Ig. B, ig. Big. D, ig. Dig. F, ig. Fig. W, ig. Wig. Great!
The next family is in. B, in. Bin. F, in. Fin. P, in. Pin. W, in. Win. Very good!
And the last family is it. B, it. Bit. F, it. Fit. H, it. Hit. S, it. Sit. Excellent!
Let us try a word one sound at a time. P, i, n. Now blend the three sounds back together. Pin! Let us do the same with fig. F, i, g. Fig! Can you think of a word that rhymes with fig? Well done!
Now let us read some sentences. Bill is ill. Jin wins a ring. The wig fits. The bin is big. Good reading!
Now it is Activity Time. Circle the pictures that have the short "i" sound. Let us say each picture together. Fin. Bed. Bin. Fan. Keg. Zip. Sip. Jam. Fig. Listen for the short "i" in the middle. Fin has it. Bed does not. Bin has it. Fan does not. Keg does not. Zip has it. Sip has it. Jam does not. Fig has it. So we circle fin, bin, zip, sip and fig. Great listening!
Here is a fun idea. Put a stick, a tin and a lid in a tub of water. Which ones sink and which ones float? You can also spell "sit" with letter blocks, swap the "s" for an "f" to read "fit", and keep going.
Let us quickly go over what we learned today. The short sound "i" is over in a flash when your lips pull back a little. We say each sound and push the sounds together into one word.
Great job, everyone! See you next time!
