Video Script -- Lesson 6

Short Sound "e"

Subject: English | Class: Prep | Series: Skillford

Hello children! Welcome to today's lesson. Today we are going to learn the short sound "e".

Open your mouth a little. The short sound "e" comes out quickly. It is the sound you hear at the start of the word egg. E, e, e. Say it with me. Very good!

We say each sound, and then we push the sounds together into one word. Let us try the first family. E, d. Ed. B, ed. Bed. F, ed. Fed. R, ed. Red. W, ed. Wed. Well done!

Now the next family. Eg. B, eg. Beg. L, eg. Leg. P, eg. Peg. K, eg. Keg. Great!

The next family is en. D, en. Den. H, en. Hen. M, en. Men. T, en. Ten. Very good!

And the last family is et. N, et. Net. P, et. Pet. J, et. Jet. W, et. Wet. Excellent!

Now let us read some sentences. The pen is red. The hen is a pet. Ted is fed. The net is wet. Good reading!

Now it is Activity Time. Look at the first picture. It is a pen. Read both letters and circle the one that makes the word. The first one is done for you. It is "p", to make "pen". Now you try the next three pictures. Which letter makes beg, ten and red?

Next, tick the word that matches the picture. The first one is done for you. It is a jet. Now look at the pictures of a den, a net and a bed. Tick the right word in each row.

Here is a fun idea. Make flash cards for the four families, ed, eg, en and et. Sort them into piles and read each pile aloud. You can also pour water through a sieve into a bowl. What stays in the sieve? What gets through?

Let us quickly go over what we learned today. The short sound "e" comes out quickly when your mouth opens a little. We say each sound and push the sounds together into one word.

Great job, everyone! See you next time!
