Video Script -- Lesson 5
Short Sound "a"
Subject: English | Class: Prep | Series: Skillford
Hello children! Welcome to today's lesson. Today we are going to learn the short sound "a".
Open your mouth wide. The short "a" pops straight out. A, a, a. Say it with me. Very good!
We say each sound, and then we push the sounds together into one word. Let us try the first family. A, d. Ad. Now with a letter in front. B, ad. Bad. H, ad. Had. M, ad. Mad. S, ad. Sad. Well done!
Now the next family. Am. D, am. Dam. J, am. Jam. R, am. Ram. Y, am. Yam. Great!
The next family is an. B, an. Ban. C, an. Can. F, an. Fan. M, an. Man. Very good!
And the last family is at. C, at. Cat. F, at. Fat. M, at. Mat. R, at. Rat. Excellent!
Now let us read some sentences. A fat cat is on the hat. A man is in the van. Sam is mad. A cat has a yam. Good reading!
Now it is Activity Time. Look at the first picture. It is a can. Read both letters and circle the one that makes the word. The first one is done for you. It is "c", to make "can". Now you try the fan, the man and the van. Which letter makes each word?
Next, tick the word that matches the picture, and then write it. The first one is done for you. It is a yak. Now look at the pictures of a dam, a jam jar and a tap. Tick the right word and write it on the lines.
Here is a fun idea. Build the word "cat" with letter blocks. Swap the "c" for a "b" to make "bat". Read every new word.
Let us quickly go over what we learned today. The short "a" pops straight out when your mouth opens wide. We say each sound and push the sounds together into one word.
Great job, everyone! See you next time!
