Video Script -- Lesson 4
Sight Words
Subject: English | Class: Prep | Series: Skillford
Hello children! Welcome to today's lesson. Today we are going to learn about sight words.
Sight words are the words you learn to read at a glance, without sounding them out. They turn up in nearly every sentence, so knowing them by sight makes reading much quicker.
Let us read them together. Look at the words and say them quickly.
First, the single-letter sight words. A. I. Very good!
Now the two-letter sight words. Am. Up. It. We. By. No. In. Us. Do. On. Of. Or. As. To. Well done!
Next, the three-letter sight words. Any. Can. Too. Get. His. Him. She. Her. Had. The. And. For. You. Are. Great reading!
And last, the four-letter sight words. With. From. That. This. Went. Very. Know. Excellent!
Remember, we do not sound out sight words. We read them at a glance.
Now it is Activity Time. Choose six sight words from the page and write them in the six boxes. Read them aloud when you have finished.
Here are two fun ideas. Take a storybook and hunt for the words the, with and is. How many times does each one turn up? Or write six sight words on paper leaves and stick them on a paper tree on the wall.
Let us quickly go over what we learned today. Sight words are words we read at a glance. They turn up in nearly every sentence. Knowing them makes reading much quicker.
Great job, everyone! Read your six sight words to a friend. See you next time!
