Revision Activity 1: Flash Cards

Time: 5 minutes

• Hold up a sight word card
• Children say the word at once, without sounding it out

Revision Activity 2: Word Hunt

Time: 10 minutes

• Give each pair a storybook
• Children hunt for "the", "with" and "a" and count how many times each one turns up

Revision Activity 3: Paper Tree

Time: 10 minutes

• Children write six sight words on paper leaves
• Stick the leaves on a paper tree on the wall and read them together

Key Points to Remember

• Sight words are the words you learn to read at a glance, without sounding them out
• They turn up in nearly every sentence
• Knowing them by sight makes reading much quicker
