Video Script -- Lesson 3
CVC Words
Subject: English | Class: Prep | Series: Skillford
Hello children! Welcome to today's lesson. Today we are going to learn about CVC words.
A CVC word has three sounds. The first sound is a consonant. The middle sound is a vowel. The last sound is another consonant. C, V, C. Consonant, vowel, consonant.
Look at our example. H, a, t. The h is a consonant. The a is a vowel. The t is a consonant. Together they make the word hat. Let us say it slowly. H, a, t. Now run the sounds together. Hat! Well done!
Let us say some more CVC words. Listen and say each one after me. Fan. Mug. Jet. Fig. Dog. Now say them again, slowly, one sound at a time. F, a, n. Fan. M, u, g. Mug. J, e, t. Jet. F, i, g. Fig. D, o, g. Dog. Very good!
Now it is Activity Time. Look at each picture and say its name. Then write its three letters in the circles. The first picture is a cat. Let us say it slowly. C, a, t. We write c, a, t, one letter in each circle. Now you try the hen, the puppy and the bun. Say each one slowly and write the three letters.
Here is a fun idea. Take three blocks, one for each sound in cat. Knock off the first block. What is left? You can also record yourself saying fan, mug and dog, and tap once for each sound.
Let us quickly go over what we learned today. A CVC word has three sounds: a consonant, a vowel and another consonant. We say the sounds one at a time, and then we run them together into a word. Three-sound words are where reading starts.
Great job, everyone! Find some CVC words around you. See you next time!
