Video Script -- Lesson 2

Vowels and Consonants

Subject: English | Class: Prep | Series: Skillford

Hello children! Welcome to today's lesson. Today we are going to learn about vowels and consonants.

Five letters of the alphabet are vowels. Here they are on the train: a, e, i, o, u. Say them with me. A, e, i, o, u. Very good!

Every one of the other twenty-one letters is a consonant. Let us read them. B, c, d, f, g, h, j, k, l, m. N, p, q, r, s, t, v, w, x, y, z. Well done!

So remember, there are five vowels and twenty-one consonants.

Now let us look for the vowel in some short words. Listen to the word and tell me which letter is the vowel. Everything left over is a consonant.

Now it is Activity Time. We will colour every vowel red and every consonant green. Look at the letters: i, h, g, e, d, o, b, p, u. Is i a vowel? Yes, so we colour it red. Is h a vowel? No, it is a consonant, so we colour it green. Is g a vowel? No, so green. Is e a vowel? Yes, so red. D is green. O is red. B is green. P is green. And u is red. Great work!

Here is a fun idea. Draw an apple and a ball. Write the first letter under each picture. Then colour the vowel red. Which one starts with a vowel?

You can also count the vowels in your name, and then count the consonants. Which pile is bigger?

Let us quickly go over what we learned today. There are five vowels: a, e, i, o, u. All the other twenty-one letters are consonants. We colour vowels red and consonants green.

Great job, everyone! See you next time!
