Revision Objectives

• Recognise the capital "Z" and small "z" and say the sound /z/
• Recall the words zero, zoo, zebra, zigzag and zip
• Repeat the sentence "The zebra is walking in a zigzag near the zip."
• Trace and write "Zz", capital first, then small
• Revise the letters V, W, X, Y and Z with the Let's Practise pages (pages 71-72)

Revision Activity 1: Buzzing Bees

Time: 4 minutes

• Learners fly round the room like bees, buzzing /z/
• When you clap, they stop and say "/z/ /z/ zebra"

Revision Activity 2: Point and Say

Time: 5 minutes

• Open page 69 or hold up picture cards
• Say a word and learners point to it: zero, zoo, zebra, zigzag, zip
• Then swap: you point, learners say the word

Revision Activity 3: Zigzag Walk

Time: 4 minutes

• Put tape on the floor in a zigzag line
• Learners walk the zigzag like the zebra, saying "The zebra is walking in a zigzag near the zip."

Revision Activity 4: Write the First Letter (Page 71)

Time: 6 minutes

• Point to each picture at the top of page 71 and name it: zigzag, xylophone, van, well, zebra, yak
• Ask: "What letter does it start with?" Learners write the letter on the lines, capital first, then small
• Answers: zigzag Zz, xylophone Xx, van Vv, well Ww, zebra Zz, yak Yy

Revision Activity 5: Draw a Line (Page 71)

Time: 5 minutes

• Point to the letters W, V, X, Z and Y and say each one
• Name the pictures: zero, watch, yacht, Xmas tree, vest
• Learners draw a line from each letter to its picture
• Answers: W to watch, V to vest, X to Xmas tree, Z to zero, Y to yacht

Revision Activity 6: Circle the Letter (Page 72)

Time: 6 minutes

• Name each picture on page 72 and ask learners to circle the letter it begins with
• Answers: well w, xylophone x, yak y, zigzag z, yacht y, Xmas tree x
• For the Xmas tree, remind learners that we are looking at the "x" at the start of Xmas

Key Points to Remember

• Big "Z" and small "z" are the same letter, and they say /z/
• Words from the page: zero, zoo, zebra, zigzag, zip
• The sentence: "The zebra is walking in a zigzag near the zip."
• To write "Z": across, slant down, across
• Always write the capital letter first, then the small letter
• Z is the last letter of the alphabet
