Video Script -- Lesson 25
Letter Yy
Subject: English | Class: Nursery | Series: Skillford
Hello, little friends! Welcome to our English lesson. Today we are going to meet a new letter. It is the letter Y!
Look at these two letters. This is big Y. And this is small y. They are the same letter. One is big and one is small. Look, small y has a long tail.
The letter Y makes a sound. It says y, y, y. Like at the start of yes. Nod your head and say y, y, yes! Very good!
Now look at the big picture. We are in a kitchen. What is this big round ball? It is yarn! We use yarn to knit warm jumpers. Say yarn. Yarn! Yarn starts with y.
And who is this, with a spoon and blueberries on top? It is a pot of yoghurt! Say yoghurt. Yoghurt! Yoghurt starts with y too.
Listen. There is yarn and yoghurt on the table. Say it with me. There is yarn and yoghurt on the table. Wonderful!
Here are some more pictures. This is a yo-yo. It goes up and down, up and down. Say yo-yo. Yo-yo! And this is a yacht. A yacht is a boat with sails. The wind pushes it along. Say yacht. Yacht!
Let us say all our y words together. Yo-yo. Yacht. Yarn. Yoghurt. Great job!
Now listen carefully. Is it a y word? Yak. Yes! A yak is a big hairy animal. Train. No, train starts with t. Aeroplane. No. Yo-yo. Yes! You are so clever.
Now it is time to write the letter Y. Hold up your finger. We always make the capital letter first.
Start at the top on this side. Slant down to the middle. Start at the top on the other side. Slant down to the middle. Now go straight down. That is big Y!
Now small y. Start at the top. Go down and curve round. Go back up. Now go straight down, below the line, and curl the tail. That is small y!
Let us do it again. Big Y. Slant, slant, straight down. Small y. Down, round, up, and a long tail. Well done!
When you trace in your book, always start with big Y, then small y. Go slowly and carefully. After tracing, you can colour the yacht at the top of the page.
Let us remember what we learned today. Big Y and small y say y, y, y.
Yo-yo, yacht, yarn and yoghurt all start with y.
There is yarn and yoghurt on the table.
Small y has a long tail that goes below the line.
You did a super job today, little friends! Nod and say y, y, yes! See you next time! Bye-bye!
