Hello, little friends! Welcome to our English lesson. Today we are going to meet a new letter. It is the letter X!

Look at these two letters. This is big X. And this is small x. They are the same letter. One is big and one is small.

Can you make an X with your arms? Cross them in front of you. That is an X!

The letter x is a special letter. Listen to the end of this word. Box. Box. Can you hear ks at the end? x says ks. Say it with me. ks, ks, ks. Very good!

Now look at the big picture. We are out at sea. Look at this ship with big stripy sails. It has a happy face! This ship is called a xebec. A xebec is an old sailing ship. Say xebec. Xebec!

And what is on the deck of the ship? A colourful xylophone! You tap it to make music. Say xylophone. Xylophone!

Xylophone and xebec both start with the letter x. Listen. The xylophone is placed on the deck of the xebec. Say it with me. The xylophone is placed on the deck of the xebec. Wonderful!

Here are some more pictures. This is an Xbox. People play games on it. Can you hear box at the end? Xbox! And this is an Xmas tree, with a star on top and presents underneath. Xmas tree!

Let us say all our x words together. Xylophone. Xebec. Xbox. Xmas. Great job!

Let us count the bars on the xylophone. One, two, three, four, five, six. Six bars! That is more than five.

Now it is time to write the letter X. Hold up your finger. We always make the capital letter first.

Start at the top on this side. Slant all the way down. Now start at the top on the other side. Slant all the way down. The lines cross in the middle. That is big X!

Now small x. It is the same shape, but little. Slant down. Slant down the other way. That is small x!

Let us do it again. Big X. Slant, slant. Small x. Slant, slant. Well done!

When you trace in your book, always start with big X, then small x. Then you can write a big X at the start of each word, to make Xbox, Xylophone and Xebec. After that, you can colour the xylophone. Use lots of colours!

Let us remember what we learned today. Big X and small x. x says ks, like at the end of box.
