Revision Objectives

• Recognise the capital "X" and small "x" and say the sound /ks/, as at the end of box
• Recall the words xylophone, xebec, Xbox and Xmas
• Repeat the sentence "The xylophone is placed on the deck of the xebec."
• Trace and write "Xx", capital first, then small

Revision Activity 1: Arms Make an X

Time: 4 minutes

• Learners cross their arms to make an "X"
• Say "box" together and stretch out the /ks/ at the end
• Each learner says "x, /ks/, box" in turn

Revision Activity 2: Point and Say

Time: 5 minutes

• Open page 65 or hold up picture cards
• Say a word and learners point to it: xylophone, xebec, Xbox, Xmas tree
• Then swap: you point, learners say the word
• Clap once for every correct answer

Revision Activity 3: Ship Sentence Game

Time: 5 minutes

• Hold up page 65 and point to the xylophone on the deck of the xebec
• Say "The xylophone is placed on the deck of the xebec."
• Learners tap a pretend xylophone while they say it with you
• Let two volunteers say it on their own

Revision Activity 4: Long Bar, Short Bar

Time: 5 minutes

• Pass a toy xylophone round, or lay out lolly sticks longest to shortest
• Each learner taps the longest bar and the shortest bar
• Ask: "Which sound is deeper?" (the longest bar)

Revision Activity 5: Big X, Small x

Time: 8 minutes

• Draw a big "X" and a small "x" on the board
• Call a learner to point: "Show me big X. Show me small x."
• Learners trace "X" and "x" in the air: slant one way, then slant the other way
• Write "X" in front of "ylophone" and "ebec" on the board together

Revision Activity 6: Count the Colours

Time: 3 minutes

• Look at the xylophone on page 65
• Name each colour and count the bars together: there are six, which is more than five

Key Points to Remember

• Big "X" and small "x" are the same letter
• On its own, "x" says /ks/, as at the end of box
