Assessment Plan -- Lesson 24
Letter Xx
Subject: English | Class: Nursery | Series: Skillford
Assessment Objectives
By the end of this lesson, learners should be able to:
- Point to the capital "X" and the small "x" when asked
- Say the letter name "x" and the sound /ks/ heard at the end of "box"
- Name three things on page 65 whose names start with the letter "x": xylophone, xebec, Xbox
- Repeat the sentence "The xylophone is placed on the deck of the xebec."
- Write a capital "X" at the start of the words on page 66 (Xbox, Xylophone, Xebec)
- Trace and write "Xx", capital first, then small
"x" is a tricky letter. On its own it says /ks/, as at the end of box and fox. At the start of xylophone and xebec it sounds like /z/, and in Xbox and X-ray we say the letter name "ex". Learners are assessed on knowing the letter and saying the words after the teacher, not on the starting sound.
All assessment for Nursery is oral and observational. Learners are not asked to read words.
