Video Script -- Lesson 19
Letter Ss
Subject: English | Class: Nursery | Series: Skillford
Hello, little friends! Welcome to our English lesson. Today we are going to meet a new letter. It is the letter S!
Look at these two letters. This is big S, the capital letter. And this is small s. They look the same, but one is big and one is small. Can you say it with me? S!
The letter s makes a sound. It says sss, like a snake. Sss, sss, sss. Can you hiss like a snake? Sss! Very good!
Now look at the big picture. There is a furry spider wearing a woolly hat. Say spider. Spider! Spider starts with s. Sss, spider.
Next to the spider is a little brown bird. It is a sparrow. Say sparrow. Sparrow! Sparrow starts with s too.
What are they sitting on? They are sitting on some soft, stripy socks. Say socks. Socks!
Listen. The spider and the sparrow are sitting on the socks. Say it with me. The spider and the sparrow. Are sitting on the socks. Now all together. The spider and the sparrow are sitting on the socks. Wonderful!
Now let us look at two more pictures. Here is a pink bar of soap. We wash our hands with soap. Say soap. Soap!
And here is a sofa. We sit on a sofa at home. Say sofa. Sofa!
Let us say all our s words together. Spider. Sparrow. Socks. Soap. Sofa. Great job! Can you tell me three of them? Well done!
Now it is time to write Ss. We always write the capital letter first, then the small letter. Hold up your finger and let us draw big S in the air.
Start at the top, on the right. Curve round to the left. Now swing back across to the right, and curve round to the bottom. It looks like a wiggly snake. That is big S!
Now small s. It is the same wiggly shape, but small. Start at the top right, curve left, swing right, curve round. That is small s!
Let us do it again. Big S, curve, swing, curve. Small s, curve, swing, curve. Lovely!
In your book, trace big S and small s along the dotted lines. Then try to write Ss all by yourself. Go slowly and carefully.
Now look at four pictures. A snail, a rose, a spider and a tiger. Which ones begin with sss? Snail, yes! Rose, no. Spider, yes! Tiger, no. Put a tick next to the snail and the spider.
When you finish, you can colour the swan at the top of the page. A swan is a white bird with a long neck.
Let us remember what we learned today. The letter s says sss, like a snake.
Spider starts with s. Sparrow, socks, soap and sofa start with s too.
The spider and the sparrow are sitting on the socks.
To make S, we curve, swing and curve, like a wiggly snake.
You did a super job today, little friends! Keep saying sss, sss, sss. See you next time! Bye-bye!
