Letter Rr

Hello, little friends! Welcome to our English lesson. Today we are going to meet a new letter. It is the letter R!

Look at these two letters. This is big R, the capital letter. And this is small r. Can you say it with me? R!

The letter r makes a sound. It says r, r, r. It sounds like a little puppy growling. Rrr. Say it with me. R, r, r. Very good!

Now look at the big picture. Here is a happy boy with curly hair. His name is Rameez. Rameez starts with r. R, r, Rameez.

What is Rameez holding? It is a racket! He is hitting a yellow ball. Say racket. Racket! Racket starts with r too.

Listen. Rameez is playing with a racket. Say it with me. Rameez is playing with a racket. Wonderful!

Look up at the sky. There is a big, bright rainbow. Say rainbow. Rainbow! And there are rockets flying past. Whoosh! Say rocket. Rocket!

Now let us look at two more pictures. Here is a rabbit. It has long ears and a fluffy body. Hop, hop! Say rabbit. Rabbit!

And here is a rhino. It is big and grey, and it has a horn on its nose. Say rhino. Rhino!

Let us say all our r words together. Racket. Rainbow. Rocket. Rabbit. Rhino. Great job! Can you tell me three of them? Well done!

Now it is time to write Rr. We always write the capital letter first, then the small letter. Hold up your finger and let us draw big R in the air.

Start at the top and go straight down. Go back up to the top. Make a bump round to the middle. Now slide a leg down to the bottom. That is big R!

Now small r. Start at the middle and go straight down. Go back up, and make a little curve over, like a branch on a tree. That is small r!

Let us do it again. Big R, down, bump, and a leg. Small r, down, up, and a little curve. Lovely!

In your book, trace big R and small r along the dotted lines. Then try to write Rr all by yourself. Go slowly and carefully.

Now look at four pictures. A ring, a crocodile, a rose and a tiger. Which ones begin with r? Ring, yes! Crocodile, no. Rose, yes! Tiger, no. Circle the ring and the rose.

When you finish, you can colour the rocket at the top of the page. Choose your brightest colours!

Let us remember what we learned today. The letter r says r, r, r, like a growling puppy.

Rameez starts with r. Racket, rainbow, rocket, rabbit and rhino start with r too.

To make big R, we go down, make a bump, and add a leg. To make small r, we go down, back up, and make a little curve.
