Letter Qq

Subject: English | Class: Nursery | Series: Skillford

Hello, little friends! Welcome to our English lesson. Today we are going to meet a new letter. It is the letter Q!

Look at these two letters. This is big Q, the capital letter. And this is small q. Can you say it with me? Q!

The letter q makes a sound. It says kw, kw, kw. Make your lips into a little round shape, then open them. Kw, kw, kw. Very good!

Q has a best friend. Its friend is the letter u. In words, q and u nearly always stand together, and they say kw. Let us say it again. Kw, kw!

Now look at the big picture. There is a beautiful queen with a shiny crown. Say queen. Queen! Queen starts with kw. Kw, kw, queen.

What is the queen holding? It is a long feather pen. It is called a quill. Long ago, people dipped a feather into ink and wrote with it. Say quill. Quill!

Listen to this. The queen is writing with a quill. Say it with me. The queen is writing with a quill. Wonderful!

Who is watching the queen? It is a little round bird with a curly feather on its head. This bird is a quail. Say quail. Quail!

Now let us look at two more pictures. Here is a quilt. A quilt is a thick, soft blanket that keeps us warm in bed. Say quilt. Quilt!

And here is a quiver. A quiver is a long bag that holds arrows. Say quiver. Quiver!

Let us say all our kw words together. Queen. Quill. Quail. Quilt. Quiver. Great job! Can you tell me three of them? Well done!

Now it is time to write Qq. We always write the capital letter first, then the small letter. Hold up your finger and let us draw big Q in the air.

Start at the top. Go round to the left, all the way round, like a big O. Now add a little tail at the bottom. That is big Q!

Now small q. Start at the top. Go round to the left like a little c. Go back up to the top. Now go straight down, down, below the line, and give it a little flick. That is small q!

Look carefully. Small q has its tail on the right side. Do not mix it up with p. Let us do it again. Big Q, round and a tail. Small q, round, up, and down below the line.

In your book, trace big Q and small q along the dotted lines. Then try to write Qq all by yourself. Go slowly and carefully.

Now look at four pictures. A queen, a fox, a quilt and a quail. Which ones begin with kw? Queen, yes! Fox, no, fox begins with f. Quilt, yes! Quail, yes! Write Qq under the queen, the quilt and the quail.

When you finish, you can colour the quail at the top of the page. Make it a lovely brown bird.

Let us remember what we learned today. The letter q says kw, kw, kw. Q and u like to stand together.

Queen starts with kw. Quill, quail, quilt and quiver start with kw too.

The queen is writing with a quill.

To make big Q, we go round like an O and add a tail. To make small q, we go round, back up, and straight down below the line.

You did a super job today, little friends! Keep saying kw, kw, kw. See you next time! Bye-bye!
