Hello, little friends! Welcome to our English lesson. Today we are going to meet a new letter. It is the letter L!

Look at these two letters. The big white one is capital L. The small yellow one is small l. Can you say it with me? L!

The letter l makes a sound. It says l, l, l. Put the tip of your tongue behind your top teeth and say it with me. l, l, l. Very good!

Now look at the big picture. Who is this? It is a little white lamb with soft, fluffy wool. Say lamb. Lamb! Lamb starts with l. l, l, lamb.

Next to the lamb there is a golden lamp. It is glowing with a warm light. Say lamp. Lamp!

And look, there is a tall wooden ladder. Say ladder. Ladder!

Listen to this sentence. The lamb sat next to a glowing lamp and looked up at the wooden ladder. Say it with me. The lamb sat next to a glowing lamp. And looked up at the wooden ladder. Wonderful!

Now let us look at two more pictures. These words also begin with l.

Here is a big green leaf. Say leaf. Leaf!

And here is a lemon. It is yellow and it tastes very sour. Say lemon. Lemon!

Let us say all our l words together. Leaf. Lemon. Lamb. Lamp. Ladder. Great job!

Now it is time to write the letter L. Hold up your finger. Let us draw capital L in the air.

Start at the top. Go straight down. Now go across along the bottom. That is capital L!

Now small l. Start at the top. Go straight down, tall and thin, with a tiny flick at the bottom. That is small l. Small l does not have a dot. Only small i has a dot.

Let us do it again. Capital L first: down and across. Then small l: one tall line down. Well done!

In your book, always write the capital letter first, then the small letter.

Now let us play a listening game. I will say four words. Which ones start with l? Lemon. Star. Drum. Leaf. Yes! Lemon and leaf start with l. In your book, you can draw a circle round the lemon and the leaf.

At the top of your page there is a beautiful flower. It is a lotus. Lotus starts with l too! You can colour the lotus with your crayons.
