Daily Lesson Plan -- Lesson 3
Letter Cc
Subject: English | Class: Nursery | Series: Skillford
Overview
This lesson introduces the capital "C" and the small "c" and the sound /k/, as at the start of cat. Learners look at a picture of a cat sitting on a car while talking with a camel, and name the cow and the cake. On the second day they trace and write "Cc", capital first, then small, and circle the pictures that begin with /k/. Talk stays oral and playful. Learners are not expected to read words.
Learning Outcomes (from textbook)

- Trace and write 'Cc', capital first, then small.

- Picture cards (or the book pictures) of cow, cake, cat, car, camel
Circle Time Warm-Up (5 minutes)
- Sit the learners in a circle and sing a hello song together

- Learners say /k/ /k/ /k/ like a little clock ticking
Little Explorers (5 minutes)
- Pass a real carrot around
- Let every learner feel it and name its colour
- Tell them that carrots are good for our eyes
- Say together: "carrot, /k/ /k/ carrot"
Look and Say (10 minutes)
- Open page 8 and point to the big "Cc". Say: "This is big C. This is small c."

- Point to the cake and say "cake". Learners repeat
- Point to the cat, the car and the camel in the big picture and name each one; learners repeat twice
- Read the sentence in the red box aloud: "The cat is sitting on the car while talking with the camel." Learners echo it
- Play "Point to it": say a word, learners point to the right picture in their book
- Ask: "Can you tell me three things that begin with /k/?"
Little Innovators (4 minutes)
- Open a drawing app on the computer
- Let every learner click the mouse once and say /k/ for the click
- Say together: "/k/ /k/ click"
Little Builders (5 minutes)
- Give out cardboard and tape

- Each group shows what they built and says its name
Wrap-Up (1 minute)
- Ask: "What sound does cat start with?" Learners say /k/
- Wave goodbye to the cat and the camel
Differentiation
- Support: Let shy learners point to pictures instead of saying words; say the word with them
- Extension: Ask confident learners to name three /k/ things on their own and say the whole sentence
Day 2: Trace and Write (30 minutes)
Materials
- Textbook pages 8-9
- A handful of coins for each learner
- Crayons

Little Thinkers (5 minutes)

- Count them into a line together
- Say who has the most
- Ask: "Coins starts with which sound?" Learners say /k/
Finger Tracing (5 minutes)
- Open page 9 and point to the big outline "Cc"
- Show the capital "C": start near the top, curve round to the left and down to the bottom, and stop. Leave it open like a big mouth
- Show the small "c": the same shape, but small
- Learners run a finger round the big "C", then the big "c"
Trace and Write (8 minutes)
- Hand out pencils and check the grip (pinch the pencil, rest it on the middle finger)
- Remind learners: capital "C" first, then small "c"
- Row 1: point to the solid "Cc" model, then trace the four dotted pairs
- Row 2: trace all five dotted pairs
- Bottom row: learners try to write "Cc" on their own, with your hand over their hand if needed
- Praise every try: "Lovely round C!"
Circle the /k/ Pictures (4 minutes)
- Read the instruction: "Circle the pictures that begin with the sound /k/."
- Name each picture together: cake, bus, cow, bear
- Ask after each one: "Does it begin with /k/?"
- Learners circle the cake and the cow
Little Artists (3 minutes)
- Learners trace the dotted cat at the top of page 9 and colour it with crayons too
- Ask: "What is this? What sound does it begin with?"
Wrap-Up (1 minute)
- Draw "C" and "c" in the air one last time and say /k/
Differentiation
- Support: Use a thick crayon for tracing; hold the learner's hand for the first row
- Extension: Let confident learners write "Cc" on the board and name another /k/ word from page 8
Teaching Tips (from textbook)
- Guide learners to trace and write Cc, starting with a capital letter first, followed by a small letter.
