- yesterday, today, tomorrow
- week, weekend
The Rhyme (from page 40)
- "The week starts with Monday, / then comes Tuesday, / Wednesday, and Thursday."

Day 1: The Rhyme (30 minutes)
Materials
- Textbook page 40, seven day-name flashcards
Warm-Up (5 minutes)
- Ask: "What day is it today?" Say the answer together
Main Activity (20 minutes)
- Read the rhyme slowly, line by line. Children repeat each line.
- Hold up the day flashcards in order as each day is said
- Count the days together on your fingers: one to seven
- Ask: "Which day does the week start with?" (Monday) "Which days are the weekend?" (Saturday and Sunday)
- Say the rhyme together two or three times
Wrap-Up (5 minutes)
- Give seven children a flashcard each; the class helps them stand in the right order
Differentiation
- Support: Chant the seven days without the rhyme first
- Extension: Children say the days in order alone
Day 2: Activity Time (30 minutes)
Materials
- Textbook page 40, pencils, day flashcards
Warm-Up (5 minutes)
- Recite the rhyme together
Main Activity (20 minutes)
- Explain: yesterday is the day before today; tomorrow is the day after today
- Read the instruction: "Fill in the boxes." Do each row together:
- Yesterday: Saturday -- Today: Sunday -- Tomorrow: Monday
- Yesterday: Sunday -- Today: Monday -- Tomorrow: Tuesday
- Yesterday: Monday -- Today: Tuesday -- Tomorrow: Wednesday
- Read the next instruction: "Answer the questions."
- How many days are there in the week? (Seven)
- Name the first day of the week. (Monday)
- Write the day names on the board for children to copy
Wrap-Up (5 minutes)
- Ask: "If today is Monday, what was yesterday? What is tomorrow?"
Differentiation
- Support: Use the flashcards in a line so children can see the day before and after
- Extension: Children say yesterday and tomorrow for today's real date
Teaching Tips
- Say the days of the week every morning
- Keep the day flashcards on the wall in order
- Remind children that Sunday comes before Monday when the week starts again
