Video Script -- Lesson 14
Use of "This" and "That"
Subject: English | Class: Prep | Series: Leeds
Hello children! Welcome to today's lesson. Today we are going to learn two little words: "this" and "that".
Use "this" for something which is nearby. Something nearby is close to you. You can touch it. Use "that" for something which is far away. You cannot touch it. You point to it.
Let us read together. This is a cat. The cat is nearby. That is a squirrel. The squirrel is far away.
This is a rabbit. That is a carrot. This is a seagull. That is a pigeon.
Can you hear the difference? "This" is for near. "That" is for far.
Now it is your turn. Look at the pictures. A big picture at the front is nearby. A small picture at the back is far away.
This is a cat. That is a rat. This is a cow. That is a calf. This is a house. That is a hut. That is a tortoise. This is a rabbit. Well done!
Remember, when "This" or "That" comes at the start of a sentence, we write it with a capital T.
Let us quickly go over what we learned today. Use "this" for something which is nearby. Use "that" for something which is far away. This is a cat. That is a squirrel.
Great job, everyone! At home, touch something near you and say "this", then point to something far away and say "that". See you next time!
