3. Choose "This" or "That" by looking at the picture

Formative Assessment

1. Near or Far (During Day 1)

• Task: The teacher holds one card near and puts one card far away. The child says "This is a cat." and "That is a squirrel."
• Criteria:
  • Uses "This" for the near card
  • Uses "That" for the far card
• Rating: Excellent / Good / Needs Practice

2. Point and Say (During Day 2)

• Task: The child picks a card from the desk or from the back of the room and says a sentence
• Criteria: Uses the right word for at least 3 out of 4 cards
• Rating: All correct / Most correct / Needs support

3. Writing Check (During Day 3)

• Task: The child fills in the eight blanks on page 29
• Criteria:
  • Right word in at least 6 out of 8 blanks
  • Capital letter at the start
• Rating: Neat and accurate / Satisfactory / Needs improvement

3. Hold up a picture of a rabbit and say a sentence. (1 mark)
4. Point to a picture of a carrot far away and say a sentence. (1 mark)

Part B: Fill in "This" or "That" (8 marks) Look at the pictures on page 29.

Remediation Plan

• Children who score below 8/15 should:
  • Practise with real objects: touch a near object and say "this", point to a far object and say "that"
  • Read the six sentences from page 28 with the teacher
  • Trace "This" and "That" on dotted lines
