Video Script -- Lesson 5

Use of "I" and "You"

Subject: English | Class: Prep | Series: Leeds

Hello children! Welcome to today's lesson. Today we are going to learn how to use "I" and "You".

When we talk about ourselves, we say "I". Point to yourself and say "I". Very good! When we talk to the person who is listening, we say "You". Point to a friend and say "You". Well done!

"I" is used when we are speaking of ourselves. "You" is used when we are speaking to the listener.

Let us read some sentences together. I am a girl. I am beautiful. Here the girl is talking about herself, so she says "I".

You are a boy. You are naughty. Here we are talking to the boy, so we say "You".

I am a teacher. I teach you. The teacher is talking about herself, so she says "I". She is talking to the children, so she says "you".

You are my brother. You play with me. Here we are talking to a brother, so we say "You".

Did you notice something? We say "I am", and we say "You are". I am a kid. You are a father. I am a patient. You are a doctor. I am a boy. You are a girl.

Let us quickly go over what we learned today. We use "I" when we speak about ourselves. We use "You" when we speak to the listener. "I" goes with "am" and "You" goes with "are". And we always write "I" as a capital letter.

Great job, everyone! Practise "I am" and "You are" with your friends. See you next time!
