Vowels and Consonants

Subject: English | Class: Prep | Series: Leeds

Hello children! Welcome to today's lesson. Today we are going to learn about vowels and consonants.

The English alphabet has two kinds of letters. Some letters are vowels. All the other letters are consonants.

The English alphabet contains five vowels. Look at the happy frog in your book. The frog jumps on five stones in the water. Each stone has a vowel on it. Let us say them together. A, E, I, O, U. Say them again. A, E, I, O, U. Very good! Let us count them on our fingers. One, two, three, four, five. Five vowels!

Now look at the long green caterpillar. There are twenty-one consonants in the English alphabet, and they are all on the caterpillar. Let us read them together. B, C, D, F, G, H, J, K, L, M, N, P, Q, R, S, T, V, W, X, Y, Z. That is a long caterpillar!

All the letters that are not vowels are consonants. Five vowels and twenty-one consonants make twenty-six letters. That is the whole alphabet!

Let us play a game. I will say a letter. You say vowel or consonant. B. Consonant! E. Vowel! M. Consonant! O. Vowel! Well done!

Let us quickly go over what we learned today. The English alphabet contains five vowels: A, E, I, O, U. There are twenty-one consonants in the English alphabet.

Great job, everyone! Remember the frog and its five vowel stones. See you next time!
