Revision Objectives

• Recognise the letters "Y" and "y" and say the sound /y/
• Recall the words yacht, yolk, yo-yo and yak
• Say the chant and the rhyme line "y / y / yak lives on high land"
• Trace "Y" and "y" with the correct stroke

Revision Activity 1: Yo-Yo Hands

Time: 5 minutes

• Learners move their hands up and down like a yo-yo
• Each time their hands go down, they say "yo-yo"
• Each time their hands go up, they say /y/

Revision Activity 2: Point and Say

Time: 5 minutes

• Open page 27 or hold up picture cards
• Say a word and learners point to it: yacht, yolk, yo-yo, yak
• Then swap: you point, learners say the word
• Clap once for every correct answer

Revision Activity 3: Chant Clap

Time: 5 minutes

• Say the chant from the letter box, clapping on each "y":
  • "y / y / yacht"
  • "y / y / yolk"
  • "y / y / yo-yo"
• Learners repeat in a loud voice, then a whisper
• Let two volunteers say it on their own

Revision Activity 4: Yak on High Land

Time: 5 minutes

• Learners walk slowly like a big yak
• Say "y / y / yak lives on high land" together
• On "high" everyone reaches up as high as they can

Revision Activity 5: Air, Board and Pencil Tracing

Time: 8 minutes

• Draw a big "Y" in the air together, then a small "y" with a long tail
• Let learners trace "Y" with a finger on the board
• Trace one dotted row of "y" on a fresh sheet with a pencil
• Check that every learner starts at the top

Revision Activity 6: Count the y's

Time: 2 minutes

• Write yo-yo, yak and yacht large on the board
• Point to each word and say it; learners count the "y" letters with you
• Yo-yo has two, yak has one, yacht has one
